Sir,

We would like to thank the authors for their kind comment on our article Kulshreshtha et al. [1] and for pointing out the report by Terada [2] We, in our literature search had come across the above article. The reasons we did not mention it in our publication are as under:

  • Firstly, it is not an isolated tumor report but a synchronous triple primary.
  • Secondly, no normal renal parenchyma could be made out on histopathology in the mentioned case. It was thus difficult to conclusively say whether it was a pure squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the renal parenchyma to begin with, or it was a urothelial tumor which had been completely replaced by the squamous component.
  • Thirdly, the tumor was eroding through the renal pelvis, making it unclear whether it was a SCC of the renal parenchyma or of the renal pelvis (which has been previously reported).

Keeping in mind the above factors, we decided not to take the report by Terada [2] as a true primary SCC of the renal parenchyma.
