Retraction of the case report

Belaldavar BP, Ankle NR, Gajendran AV, Kedarnath R. Isolated Eccentric Lingual Diphtheria: A Relevance Indian J Pathol Microbiol 2013;56:466-7

The Editorial Board and the Publishers of Indian Journal of Pathology and Microbiology regret to report that the case report, Belaldavar BP, Ankle NR, Gajendran AV, Kedarnath R. Isolated Eccentric Lingual Diphtheria: A Relevance Indian J Pathol Microbiol 2013;56:466 stands retracted since this is republication of an image with alterations and without proper acknowledgement and referencing from a book [ Ananthanarayan & Paniker's Textbook of Microbiology 9th ed. Universities Press, Hyderabad. Editor Arati Kapil.Corynebacterium, 2013 Ch 25, 236-45].

The decision has been arrived at by the Editorial Board of the journal. The Editor-in-Chief received a "Letter to the Editor" related to the case report, that had pointed out that [Figure 3] showing Alberts stain of Corynebacterium Diphtheriae was taken from Ananthanarayan & Paniker's Textbook of Microbiology 9th ed. The authors were contacted and have agreed that this was downloaded from the internet and that they regret not having referenced the figure. The matter has been investigated and the Editorial Board is convinced that [Figure 3] is indeed a cropped and rotated picture of the figure from the book. The use of the copied image is a violation of publication ethics (Major Plagiarism), which according to our Policy on Publishing Integrity warrants a retraction of the article and the image.

Notices have been issued to the authors of the article and the head of the institution condemning this act and warning them not to repeat this in future.

The entire Editorial Board and the publisher regrets the inconvenience caused to readers who may have spent their time in reading and referencing the publication. The Editorial Board reiterates that the journal follows strict guidelines and adheres to ethical policies of publication. It is implied that all images submitted for publication which are not referenced or do not have permission from publishers or authors are original, not used earlier and not submitted for publication or any other purpose elsewhere.
