I have just taken over as Editor-in-Chief of this prestigious journal, The Indian Journal of Pathology and Microbiology. Due to the process of transition, change over from conventional publication to online publication process and development of exclusive website of the journal, there has been a slight delay in bringing out the first issue of the volume 51. The future challenges are: to increase the visibility and readership, to increase the proportion of original research publications, to make the articles available online ahead of print and to make the journal more popular. The database of reviewers has also increased in these two months. Now any one with vast experience in the field with publications to ones credit can inform the editor to do the review work by e-mail: [email protected] or through the website of the journal.
The website of the journal is www.ijpmonline.org where all the data of article submission, past issues of the journal in downloadable pdf format, contact information and feedback methods are available. The article submission is through the website: www.journalonweb.com/ijpm. From the response and from the surveys by authors, it seems it is going to be very popular. The ease of submission, tracking of the article, economy, conservation of scarce natural resource like paper and fast decision making are some of the interesting features of online submission.
For improving the credibility of the journal, the quality of the articles should improve. Though there is resource crunch in many institutions to have modern technologies and ancillary diagnostic tests, there is vast clinical material available in the country. There is a need for national data on many disease entities. The journal can form a platform in this task. I appeal to all the workers in the field of research to send good quality articles to the journal.
